We would like to take a moment to tell you more about the "Low Voltage Directive" created by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union.

What is the Low Voltage Directive ?

The official documentation describes it as follows:

The low voltage directive (LVD) (2014/35/EU) ensures that electrical equipment within certain voltage limits provides a high level of protection for European citizens, and benefits fully from the single market. It has been applicable since 20 April 2016.

In more concrete terms the low voltage directive covers health and safety risks on electrical equipment operating with an input or output voltage between 50 and 1000 V for alternating current and 75 and 1500 V for direct current.

It applies to a wide range of electrical equipment for both consumer and professional usage (e.g. Power cables are part of it).

Trust the original

As a major actor of the field, Neutrik ensures that the products you buy complies with the European standards.

  • Cord sets and interconnection cord sets fall within the scope of the Low-Voltage Directive 2010/35/EU (LVD) and must therefore comply with the requirements.

  • Presumption of conformity with the LVD applies if the products comply with the standards listed under the LVD.

The following standards are listed in the Official Journal of the Low Voltage Directive:

IEC 60799:1998Cord sets and interconnection cord sets
EN IEC 60799:2021Cord sets and interconnection cord sets
EN IEC 60320-1:2021Appliance couplers

Worry-free purchases

Products sold in the European market (countries of the European Economic Area and Turkey) have been assessed to meet high safety, health, and environmental protection requirements.

Furthermore, the Low Voltage Directive requires that the manufacturer checks the conformity of the electrical equipment with the directive requirements by means of a conformity assessment and ensures this for the entire series. This includes issuing an EU declaration of conformity and affixing the CE marking.

False CE markings are used to sell knock-off versions of products which can get you in trouble, purchasing products from official suppliers ensures you to avoid any legal issues.

What happens if product are brought onto the market with false CE-marking ?

  • If a product is unlawfully affixed with the CE marking, the government of the specific member state can enforce measures. Products can be withdrawn from the market and penalties can be imposed.

  • Manufacturers, importers and/or authorised representatives will be held liable if the CE mark has been fixed illegally or if the product does not meet the level indicated by the EU harmonised standards.

You will find below the compliance tables for both the cord sets and interconnection cord sets as well as the power connectors for compliant cables:
