What is XIRIUM?
Xirium is a wireless connection device that replaces the use of cables when high quality audio is needed and cables cannot be used (or too complicated to set in place)
How does it work?
The base unit is connected to a sender and/or receiver device through a super high frequency transmission; the full band audio signal is not compressed when turned into a digital signal and the delay achieved is only 3.4 milliseconds per channel.
What is its range of use?
In some applications, distances up to 350m in a perfect line-of-sight can be achieved though the range could be limited by obstacles, reflections, interferences.
How is XIRIUM different from other wireless audio solutions?
Other wireless audio devices work from high frequency to ultra high frequency bands (3-30MHz to 300MHz- 3GHz) where XIRIUM orks in super high frequency (5Ghz). Neutrik has developed a special protocol (DiWA®) to transmit the audio signal; the way of encoding audio data is unique. XIRIUM manages the frequency connections automatically as well.
Is there a risk of XIRIUM not working properly because of internet WiFi routers nearby?
No. When a connection is established between the basestation and receiver/sender, the system sends and occupies the entire frequency channel the whole time. If a WiFi router tries to emit on the same channel, it won’t be able to do so because the channel is occupied by XIRIUM.
Can I use XIRIUM for a home Hi-Fi installation?
Yes. XIRIUM is made for high quality audio, allowing it to be used for professional or private applications. If you don’t want - or are unable - to place cables in your house, Xirium meets your needs.
Does XIRIUM interfere with my WiFi router?
No, given that your router works in traditional 2.4Ghz frequency. If your router works in 5GHz, it has to emit on a free channel where the Xirium is not sending. If this is not the case, you can either manually select the channel you want the Xirium to work on, or you manually select the channel you want your router to emit on. In case your router can switch channels automatically, it will manage this on its own.
Is standing next to XIRIUM harmful?
No. Though the used frequency is part of micro-wave frequencies, the emitting power is limited to 250 mW, being too small to be compared to micro-wave ovens.
Is XIRIUM a new kind of WiFi system?
No. The Xirium has its own proprietary protocol; it’s not part of the so-called WiFi standards and derivatives (IEEE standards). Therefor Xirium can’t be detected with a WiFi analyzer.
What is XIRIUM’s impact on cell phones?
None. This type of transmission is completely different and the loudspeakers connected will not interfere with a cellphone call.
What is the autonomy for the receiver and sender units?
Typically 5,5 hours using rechargeable batteries 2500mAh.
What is the difference between the standard and touring receivers/senders?
The Touring *X-T model has a metal body where the standard model has a plastic body. The Touring version does not work on batteries, only with an external power supply. It has an SMA male connector to connect the type of antenna of your choice (omni- or unidirectional). The standard model has a fixed omnidirectional antenna and can be powered with batteries. Both devices have the same input/output features and transmission specifications. The Touring model includes a female 3/8“ mounting thread for installing it on a microphone stand.
Which input signals and connectors can be used?
The senders include a XLR/Jack Combo connector with phantom powered alimentation (selector included and phantom power “ON” LED); this allows the user to connect line/mic/high impedance/phantom inputs.
Is it possible to transmit directly between a sender (TX) and a receiver (RX)?
Connections between sender and receiver are only possible through the basestation. This will always be the central element.
I see “5GHz frequency band”, is that linked to a “5G” cell phone network like the new “4G” network?
Not at all. The 3G and 4G denomination stands for third and fourth generation mobile network, not to be compared with the frequency actually used (mobile network: from 800MHz to 2600MHz).
